There's the operating-system software, which is low-level, & the applications software. Windows from MS is probably the operating-system many of us know best. Windows is a very sophisticated group of programs, all interacting together to control everything - the space on your desktop, how you interact with it, your internet and network access, all of the storage mediums and all the connecting devices.

Don't listen to any salesperson that recommends a training program without a decent chat to assess your abilities as well as experience level. Make sure they can draw from a generous stable of training programs so they're able to provide you with what's right for you. With a little real-world experience or certification, you may find that your starting point is very different to someone completely new. Consider starting with some basic user skills first. It can brush up on your current abilities and make the learning curve a bit more manageable.

Just like with any other 'technical' qualification, a precise understanding should be reached on where you want to get to, so that the correct approach to that position can be calculated.
